Shes devastated, and she thinks shell win the Little Miss Central Florida Tire pageant if she can get there. Set in 1975, this tender novel shows how even when life seems out of one’s controlpeople die, parents disappointpersistence and belief pay off. Raymie’s goal to become Little Miss Central Florida Tire doesn’t work out exactly as she imagines, but she and her friends end up winning so much more than a beauty pageant. Through their hilarious escapades (which include breaking a cat out of jail and running around town with a stolen grocery cart in the middle of the night) they discover each of them is capable of being a hero, which Raymie in particular surprising everyone, including herself, with her courage, heart, and quick-thinking. The unlikely trio sets out to right Raymie’s wrongs and complete all of their good deeds for the contest. Luckily, tough-girl Beverly and sweetly eccentric Louisiana-Raymie’s new friends and fellow competitors-are there by her side to help.
